Teamsters Local 808 is committed to empowering workers through strong representation, collective bargaining, and solidarity.
We strive to protect the rights of our members, improve working conditions, and build a more just and equitable workplace for all.
Our mission is rooted in the belief that every worker deserves dignity, respect, and a voice on the job.

Founded in 1922, Teamsters Local 808 has been a steadfast advocate for workers’ rights in New York for over a century. Originally established to represent transportation and building service workers, Local 808 has grown into a diverse and dynamic union, representing employees across Metro-North Railroad, building maintenance, public sector, and other essential industries.
Local 808 is headquartered in Chappaqua, NY, and is affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)—one of the largest and most influential labor unions in North America.

Under the leadership of Christophe Silvera, who began his career as a trackman in 1978 and became Secretary-Treasurer in 1990, Local 808 has consistently fought for better wages, pensions, and working conditions. Silvera, along with Osvaldo LoVerme, led a pivotal organizing drive in 1982 that brought Metro-North workers into the Teamsters fold, marking a major turning point in the local’s history.
Local 808 has also been active in civil rights, progressive politics, and community empowerment, with members participating in national conferences, rallies, and advocacy campaigns.
